In 1991, my partner and I left our native California for Spain, setting out with our brand new careers, our backpacks, our bicycles and our hopes. I was a lawyer and he was a chiropractor. I didn’t speak a word of Spanish and knew no one in the entire country…
But it wasn’t long before Spain worked her magic on us; by the end of the year we knew that this was where we wanted to be.Two years later, we opened one of the first chiropractic offices in Barcelona. My partner worked with the patients while I worked on the administrative end of things. Little did I know that this experience would later allow me to build other successful practices of my own and teach others how to do the same.
Working as an assistant in our clinic was an unexpectedly profound experience for me. I witnessed the incredible life changes the patients experienced through chiropractic, and spreading awareness about it quickly became my passion. Within a year, I co-founded Spain’s first chiropractic patient association (Asociación Pro-Quiropráctica Española) and grew adept at explaining the benefits of chiropractic both to patients at our weekly health talks, as well as to those we met on chiropractic mission trips we arranged while traveling through Africa. Pioneering the chiropractic profession and its legalization in Spain has been one of the most professionally fulfilling experiences of my life.
It wasn’t until 10 years later that I finally knew I wanted to become a chiropractor myself. At the age of 45, I became one of the first students to attend and graduate from the Barcelona College of Chiropractic. Today, I’m running my third thriving practice in Barcelona with a special emphasis on elder patients. I’m also proud to be a faculty lecturer and recruiter at my alma mater. I make time to continue on my path of service around the globe whenever possible.
When people talk about their life’s calling or true purpose, I can say without hesitation that healing through chiropractic is mine. From my first involvement in the field more than 25 years ago to where I stand today, my passion has only grown and it continues to expand! I feel privileged to be able to adjust the three generations of people who walk into my office, and to watch not only their health but their very lives transform in ways they never expected. I consider it an honor to be able to inspire other chiropractors and students through education, mentoring, consulting, and chiropractic outreach events.
Raising my children, accompanying my parents as they age and being part of this ever-changing world full of its unique challenges have led me to believe that a foundation of health and wellness is truly the key to thriving – at any age. I wake up each day excited to help people thrive, and to live better than they ever thought possible.
